Following are the details for each of the four different sections of the DE IV part contest ("obligatory fiction", "fictitious panel", "do-able panel", and "best artistically-modified genitals"). The 4 winners will each receive a free Death Equinox membership, plus an annually determined batch of goodies. The winning entries will be printed in the convention book, or actualized at the convention. The DE contests are open to anyone (you are not required to currently be a registered member), though winners must be planning to use their free membership as the remainder of the prizes will be awarded at Death Equinox. Please read the procedures at the end of this file before entering.
DE '99 contest entry deadline: July 20, 1999.
DE '99 contest prizes: Free DE '99 membership, Cyber-Psychos
AOD #9, the Bloodreams Mind Rot anthology, Don Webb's The Double
(hardback novel), Brian Hodge's Wild Horses (hardback novel),
and Little Fyodor's Slither/Sloth (cassette).
Part I: the "obligatory fiction" contest.
Preliminary Judges: Brian Hodge (nephilim777@earthlink.net), Michael
Hemmingson (AvantPop@aol.com), and Jeffrey A. Stadt (MrFrosty@swbell.net).
Rules: The entrants must submit a fiction story which could fall into
any of the following categories (or, better yet, a variety of them plus
more): most emotive, socially-challenging, psychotic, sadistic, perverse,
transcendental, witty, mystical, schizophrenic, chaotic, etc. The more
captivating and disturbing the story, the better its chances for winning.
The winning entry will appear in the con book.
Subject line: DE fiction contest
Part II: the "best artistically-modified genitals" contest.
Preliminary Judges: Gomez (gomez@netherworld.com), Steve James (stevj@ipa.net), and Cherie Sailing (cherie_sailing@uswestmail.net).
Rules: The entrants must send a tif or jpg of their own artistically
modified genitals. This can include anything from complex piercings
to far more extreme modifications. The winning entry will be verified
in the flesh at Death Equinox, so do not enter if you are too shy for
this. The more creative/ bizarre/ disturbing your genital enhancement,
the more likely you will be to win. The winner will be in the con
book.
Subject line: DE genital contest
Part III: the "do-able panel" contest.
Preliminary Judges: The Joey Zone (jshea@arrl.org), Bruce Young
(youngbi@netonecom.net), and Chris Yardley (lobotomy@pagan.net).
Rules: The entrants must write a feasible panel; what it is, who will be
on it, what directions the discourse will take, etc. This one will be
eliminated if no original panels which could seriously be conducted at
the convention are entered. If possible, check the web site for DE '97
through '99 panels to avoid repetition. If a winner is chosen, the panel
will be actualized at the convention.
Subject line: DE do-able panel contest
Part IV: the "fictitious panel" contest
Preliminary Judges: Don Webb (DWebb9@aol.com), Edward Bryant
(EBryant330@aol.com), and Lee Ballentine (probook@csn.net).
Rules: The entrants must devise a fictional panel which would be
suiting for Death Equinox. Entries must name the panel and
participants, then transcribe the imaginary discussion (including
questions from the audience). The participants can be personalities
from throughout history, but please be certain that their psyches are
pertinent to the DE themes. Check the DE web site for indication of
interests in programming. The winner will be in the con book.
Subject line: DE fictitious panel contest
Reallocation of free memberships: If the winners are already registered they can choose to have their free membership given to a friend (and then they can determine whether or not they are going to beat the money out of said friend). This should work particularly well for people who bought early memberships at cheaper rates.
Procedures: There is a $5 entry fee (per submission to any of these contests). This fee is waived for registered members of Death Equinox, though they must limit themselves to only one entry per specific contest. All other entrants must snail mail their fees to the DE contact address, then email their submissions to the three preliminary judges of their contest of choice. The proper subject line must be used for the entries, lest they be confused with a random mail-bombing and summarily deleted. As soon as the arrival of the entry fee has been verified, the submissions will be entered and judged. The three preliminary judges, for each contest, will then choose their favourite entry. If they (or 2 out of 3 of them) don't agree with each other, the three favourites will be sent to Jasmine Sailing and she will select the winner from amongst them.
Entry Fee Submission Address: Death Equinox, PO Box 581, Denver CO 80201. Checks and money orders should be made payable to Cyber-Psychos.
