Moment: Round 1
Players: Chris and Emily Butler (left), Chelsea Kipper and Aeones DeVeyra (right). Chelsea and Aeones won. Photo Credit: Larry LeJeune Comments: 6-year-old Emily Butler (back for her 2nd year!) and her father Chris face the to-be 1st place High Kyu pair in round 1. Poor Emily only managed to play one round, due to pain from losing a baby tooth. In the background you can see Meaghan Griffith and Eric Shearer vs Jessie Ramos and Kevin Gassaway. |
Moment: Round 1
Players: Katherine Lin and David Weiss (facing/right) vs Jasmine Sailing and Mayeul d'Avezac (backs/left). Katherine and Dave won. Photo Credit: Bruce Young Comments: This was the start for Katherine and Dave moving on to become the #1 pair in the Open Section. It was a very difficult game! (At least for my side, aka the Jasmine and Mayeul side.) This was early on, and not enough of the game can be seen, but it is so far the only picture I have of this game. Katherine and Dave were white, I was capturing a stone here (1st kill! Time to resign, right?). In the background you can see DeeDee, plus a partial glimpse of Aeones, Chelsea, Chris, and Emily. |
Moment: Round 1
Players: David Ring and DeeDee Eckles (left) vs Diana Yang and Albert Hwang (right). David and DeeDee won. Photo Credit: Bruce Young Comments: Fighting Spirit winners David and DeeDee vs Most In-Sync winners Diana and Albert. It looks like an interesting start to the game, and you can definitely see serious concentration in the 2 visible faces. Pardon the glare, the table and David's shirt chose to be reflective. If you zoom in on the background, you can see a lot of progress in the Emily and Chris Butler vs Chelsea and Aeones game. |
Moment: Round 1
Players: Lots of players! See comments. Photo Credit: Bruce Young Comments: It's a good-sized chunk of round 1! Interestingly, much of the high kyu section seems to have clumped down this way. Jessie Ramos and Kevin Gassaway (front left) vs Meaghan Griffith and Eric Shearer (slightly more right); Elisabeth Meyer and Anton Nguyen-Vu (front right) vs Amy Chen and Thomas Creel (more right); Chelsea Kipper and Aeones DeVeyra (back left) vs Emily and Chris Butler (slightly more right); and Jessica Lin and Kellin Pelrine (back right) vs Stu Horowitz and Laurie Linz (more right). The latter game is the lone open section one in this picture. |
Moment: Round 1
Players: Jessica Lin and Kellin Pelrine (left) vs Stu Horowitz and Laurie Linz (right). Stu and Laurie won. Photo Credit: Larry LeJeune Comments: The big shocker for me, Jessica and Kellin lost this game by .5 points. What's not a shocker is that Stu and Laurie did it, I can see them pulling off wins that I wouldn't consider highly probable. I knew Stu and Laurie had won... but I couldn't seem to parse it that that meant Jessica and Kellin hadn't (yes, it does tend to work that way), so I had to ask Bruce why they were paired against me in the post knock-outs for round 2. Congratulations to Stu and Laurie for managing to bend the Organizer's reality! ;) The game seems to be off to an interesting start, I wish I could've watched it. |
Moment: Round 1
Players: Bob Meyer and Karen Jordan (left) vs Zeke Johnson and Aichan Tewahade (right). Bob and Karen won. Photo Credit: Larry LeJeune Comments: The first win to push Karen and Bob to the #2 spot. Karen smiles so cheerfully for her pictures, I'm glad she can focus on her games and on being cheerful at the same time! Aichan normally plays with her brother Yaphet, but he needed to be late due to important school responsibilities. Fortunately Zeke was seeking a partner when that came up. |
