The Details: Gundam Wing might've been intended mostly for merchandising, and it
might do a bit too much rehashing from previous Gundam series, but I like it quite a bit
anyway. Quite a bit more than any of the earlier series I've seen, for that matter. What I
found most fascinating about it was the politics. They didn't cop out with a glorious
revolution, instead they showed many of the down sides and some of the stepping on of toes
by varying factions. I would've loved to see more of the latter, but at least it was
represented.
Favourite characters? Hrm. Of the pilots, I prefer Heero Yuy and Trowa Barton. On that
particular psychological note, I'm a softie for Zechs as well. That clears out the 3
obligatory deranged characters. Beyond them, Treize is a highly admirable type. I love Lady
Une, particularly because I went from wanting to see her get shot in the head to feeling
deeply moved by her. Noin is likeable as well, but I'm not sure where she would land in this
pile. Somewhere amongst a couple of the younger pilots I haven't named, most likely.
